Macbeth is my favourite Shakespeare play.  I was lucky enough to study it twice in high school – at two different schools.  Foe English Literature I did at essay on Macbeth and the changing roles of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.  I hope I still have it somewhere, packed away in a box.  I’d like to find it and read it again.

The reason I bring up Macbeth is that there is a new movie version of the play coming out.  It was shown at the Cannes Film Festival to mostly very positive reviews. The trailer has just been released and it looks stunning.  I cn’t wait for it.

The trailer for the second part of The Hobbit is now out – seems to take a bit of a detour from the books, but we’ll see more when it comes out.

I went to school during the 80s, so as a result I heard a fair bit of Metal – I even have a collection of it still on my old cassettes, which haven’t been played for years.

Yesterday I came across this – Doctor Who Meets Metal.

Needless to say I was deeply impressed – one of my favourite TV shows with the music of it done in metal style.

Took a further look at the guy doing it, and he has over 100 videos of various metalised versions of TV shows, movies, games and of course other forms of music.

Some of my other favourites so far are Skyrim, Lord of the Rings and BBC Sherlock.

For those that bought The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, they were given access to a special to a special live online event which featured the first look at the second part, The Desolation of Smaug, due in December.

For those who didn’t get to see it, Peter Jackson has released a short 6 minute excerpt to whet our appetites.

Back in 1978, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg sat down to brainstorm out the script for Raiders of the Lost Ark.  The whole process was taped, and those taped have now been transcribed into a PDF.  At 90 pages long, it isn’t a short read, but its is an intriguing look into how to the movie script came about, and escpecially for those of us who are writers.

The whole PDF can be viewed here.

The Hobbit Trailer

The Hobbit trailer is out!  Of course now we have a 51 week wait until we can watch it, so in the meantime keep hitting replay.  And then we have to wait another year for the second part.

One of the memorable things about the book is that it has a lot of songs and poetry, and by the prominent way one of them is part of the trailer, it would seem that they have included them in the movie.

The Adventures of Tintin

It is not long now until the Tintin movie has its release here in Australia, and I am looking forward to it. In theory a collaboration between Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg should be good – and one based on the Tintin comics as well. As a kid, the Tintin stories were right up there along with Asterix as my favourites. Of course going by the trailers seen to date it seems more a ‘loosely based on’ style rather than the true to the source style that the TV show a few years back used.

In part it is based on the ‘Secret of the Unicorn’ and ‘Red Rackham’s Treasure’ two parter, which was always my favourite. I always enjoyed those treasure hunt style stories, such as in Indiana Jones, The Mummy, The Goonies, Treasure Island, National Treasure and numerous others. I did write, way back in primary school, some stories of that nature, and went back to that partially in Tears of the Mountain. I hope to do some more of those (revolving around Professor Halir of course) in the future.
