The Merchant’s Legacy

Synopsis:

Nhaqosa, the giant white Minotaur and escaped gladiator, is seeking the long roads to his home. The lands that he and his followers tread though are in the grip of drought and lawlessness, beset by bandits and monsters and seldom does he find a welcome.

A chance encounter with the merchant Kythias may change all that…

Length:

11,000 words

Background Notes:

This is a follow up story to the events of The Pit, though it does not take place immediately afterward, but at some point later in Nhaqosa’s travels.

At one part of the story, Nhaqosa utters the line ‘And how can man die better. Sadly I can not claim ownership of this line; it comes from The Lay of Horatius. The full quote reads;

And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers,
And temples of his gods.

I certainly hope some day to be able to write lines half so good.
